It is estimated that about 8.1% of the United States population cannot speak, write, or understand English. With the current US population count estimated at 3.16 million people, that means almost 25,280,000 people need assistance in understanding English.
There are many people who miss out on important and life-changing information, because they don’t understand the material presented. Issues such as homelessness, sexual abuse, trauma, mental health, substance abuse, and others are forgotten. Thankfully, many Language Service Providers and linguists are lending their skills to translate documents pertaining to these tough issues.
Dynamic would like to highlight two superb organizations we assist, Friends of Youth and the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center (KCSARC).
Friends of Youth is a nonprofit organization that helps young people in challenging circumstances, by operating overnight youth shelters, youth and family counseling, substance abuse counseling, and more. It is important for Friends of Youth to be able to reach the entire community, which is where we’ve stepped in to help! Dynamic has translated documents relating to: applications for services; consent forms and general information for substance abuse treatment; information regarding group therapy; information regarding Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) for Children; legal documents ensuring the right to confidentiality and privacy; and more. Every Christmas, Dynamic also hosts a Friends of Youth Giving Tree; our employees enjoy supporting local youth by providing them with both fun and practical gifts.
KCSARC is a nonprofit that provides sexual assault-related services in King County, WA, including manning a crisis response hotline, giving legal advocacy, therapy for children, teens and adults, and more. KCSARC’s mission is to give voice to victims, a very difficult task for those who don’t speak English. Along with updating translations on KCSARC’s webpage, Dynamic assisted in translating the “Dando Voz,” or “To Give Voice” campaign. This campaign encourages victims to speak up about their abuse, especially those in our diverse community who feel pressured to stay silent. In addition, Dynamic has translated a series of brochures focusing on both parent and client education.
We’re so thankful these great organizations exist in the Northwest, and we’re happy to be able to support them, and therefore, our greater community!
