Google Introduces Haitian Kreyol to Search Engine

Dynamic Language | March 23, 2010

Google strikes again! This time – adding a new language, Haitian Kreyol (aka Haitian Creole), to its search engine.

“Haitian Kreyòl is spoken by more than 10 million people in Haiti and in the Haitian diaspora in the Bahamas, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, France, French Guiana, Puerto Rico and the United States.”

Users visiting Google’s Haitian homepage can now search for information in English, French and Kreyol.

As a result, Google is aiding the millions affected by the massive earthquake that struck Haiti not long ago. The internet has become a life-line for Haitians searching for news and information due to complications with their communication infrastructure (TV, radio and newspapers).

Google also added support for Haitian Kreyol to Google Translate and thanked all the Haitian volunteers who shared their time to improve the search engine.

Google continues to attack the language barrier, one language at a time.
